About Alex Ozga

I was born in London, England to Polish parents. Since a young age, I have had a fascination for the visual arts despite being terrible at 'conventional' art forms such as drawing or painting. Photography, however, was something that seemed natural - I loved picking up my mother's 35mm Olympus compact, looking through the viewfinder and releasing the shutter to immortalise the way I saw the world.

While I never fully embraced photography as a hobby until later on, the urge to shoot stayed with me and I was always interested in the art. It wasn't, however, until just over a year ago that I took the plunge financially, invested in a Nikon DSLR and began to shoot seriously. Since then, I have taken over twelve thousand exposures and counting, and try to pick up the camera just to shoot as often as I can. As can be seen from my portfolio, my main passion is landscapes and environmentals, but I love the challenge that every genre of photography brings and will happily take a shot at wildlife, portrait or even sports photography. I love the photographic process from start to finish - previsualisation, the technical challenges associated with composition and lighting when taking the photograph, post-processing and the glowing feel of looking at a large print and knowing you have created a work of art. As David Noton writes, the buzz of walking away from a shoot, knowing that 'the one' is in the bag is something that simply cannot be beaten.

I prefer Nikon over Canon, digital over film and am a strong advocate of the view that your camera does not determine your artistic skills as a photographer. I am my own harshest critic and am known for giving brutally honest critiques of photographs - after all, how else are we to improve?

My goals in photography are solely to enjoy and express myself, which, in my opinion, is what art should be about. In the future? I want to expand my photographic interests and dedicate more of my time to shooting portraits. My main ambition, however, is to travel to the four corners of the world to shoot landscapes. In particular, South-East Asia and South America continue to fascinate me.

I hope you enjoy my website and photography - keep on shooting.

About Ozga.co.uk

Ozga.co.uk was registered, designed and developed by me a few years ago, as my interest in information technology and web design peaked. Since then, it has gone through many redesigns, and has contained everything from articles on building websites, to a weblog on technology and current affairs, and in its latest form, a photography portfolio to showcase my work.

The current version of this site utilises lightweight, standards-compliant XHTML, CSS and JavaScript for the front-end. Some basic PHP handles the back-end for ease of updating. The site was built in AceHTML Freeware, basic graphics software where applicable and uses Airtight Interactive's SimpleViewer player to deliver the portfolio. All effort has been made to ensure that the site functions for users with Flash or JavaScript disabled. Contact me if any serious incompatibilities arise with this site and your browser.
